As autumn rolls in and those beautiful leaves start to change, it’s the perfect time to think about capturing some family memories with a mini photography session. I’m here to help you navigate your fall mini outfits, so you can look and feel your best in front of the camera. Let’s dive into some tips to make your fall session shine!
I know how tempting it is to throw on that bright, patterned plaid this time of year, but trust me, less is more! Bright colours can distract from the beauty of the fall scenery and take the focus away from your lovely family. Instead, let’s go for those cozy earthy tones like rust, mustard, and soft neutrals like creams and oatmeal. They’ll not only complement the autumn backdrop but also create a warm, inviting feel in your photos.
Fall weather can be a bit unpredictable, so dressing appropriately is super important. Think layers—cozy sweaters, stylish jackets, and textured tights that keep you warm while looking fabulous! Long sleeves and pants work great to keep the chill at bay. Don’t forget to check the weather before our session to make sure you’re all set!
Matching outfits can feel a bit old-fashioned, right? Instead, let’s focus on coordination! Pick a colour palette that everyone can work with, mixing and matching outfits that complement each other. For example, if one person wears a soft patterned dress, others can wear solid colours that pull from that pattern. This creates a lively and cohesive look without feeling too uniform
I can’t stress this enough: comfort is essential! If your kiddos are squirming in their clothes, it’ll show in the photos. Choose soft, breathable fabrics that allow everyone to move freely. Avoid anything too tight or scratchy. When everyone feels comfy, it makes it so much easier to capture those genuine smiles and playful moments.
You can create beautiful dimension in your outfits but also incorporating texture. Think about layering different materials—like a chunky knit sweater over a soft shirt or a corduroy dress with thick tights. These little details not only add visual interest but also help your family stand out beautifully against the fall backdrop.
As your photographer, I’m here to help! Planning your outfits ahead of time can save a lot of last-minute stress. Consider where we’ll be shooting—some colours and styles look better in certain settings. If you’re feeling unsure, text me pictures of everyone’s options laid out together. I’d be more than happy to lend a helping hand or offer suggestions. I want you to look and feel your best!
And lastly —If you feel like you just don’t have anything to wear, I have a client closet filled with fabulous dress options for women and children! (sorry Dads!). Text me your size and I can show you what I have. It’s a great way to take the pressure off outfit planning and ensure everyone looks fantastic!
I can’t wait to capture all those special moments together!
